Deep Blue Sea Nails ft. L'Oreal "The Holographic"

For one of our last pilgrimages up to Northern California for a little while, Greg and I made short visits to Burlingame, San Francisco, and Woodland. The real purpose of the trip was to christen Greg in the professional world of comic books at the 3rd Image Expo. Look ma! I'm going to draw purty pictures and get paid for it! All kidding aside, this is actually a very big deal for Greg. He'll be doing a 80 page miniseries with veteran comic book writer, James Robinson whilst nestled in the soft bosom of Image Comics. Airboy will feature both Greg and James as characters (Adaptation style) getting into all kinds of mischief (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas style). It's all super exciting as this is exactly what Greg has wanted since he was a little kid. No pressure or anything Greg!

I decided this special occasion not only called for an actual hotel* stay, but also my most ambitious** nail polish application to date: Deep Blue Sea Nails.

Oooh.

The blue is OPI's Russian Navy, a iridescent navy with hints of purple in certain light. I've worn it before and it's one of my favorite dark polishes, but this is my first go at a cellophane style top coat. It's L'Oreal's limited edition top coat The Holographic.

Worn together, it reminds me of those super creepy deep sea luminescent fish, like that fish that has a little fish lantern hanging from its head that draws smaller fish in, and then when the little fish gets close it's like "OH SHIT a big monster fish is eating me!" Ah yes, the Anglerfish. I knew I wasn't making this up.

It also looks kind of like an 80s dance party, like Footloose or something. Just go with me on this one. I've got 80s on the brain, alright?

The Holographic gets 4 Pennies because I've never used anything like it before, but it does go on a little goopy and requires a little finesse to get all the flakies on properly. This didn't bother me too much and I think it still looks really cool despite it being lumpy as all hell. I recommend a nice heaping does of a good clear topcoat over it for maximum gloss. (I used Seche Vite).

* As the duck clearly states, we stayed at the Chancellor Hotel in Union Square. Pros: super soft sheets, central location, nice smell, mini fridge, jar of hard candies. Cons: central location = central location noises, no Andes mint on my pillow, hard candy jar only contained one Jolly Rancher and it was already half unwrapped.

** Look ma! I applied a top coat and a base coat!
